An Argentine design icon, represented in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
Designed in Buenos Aires in 1938 by Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy, the BKF Chair became one of the most internationally recognized pieces of Argentine modern design.
In 1940, Edgar Kaufmann Jr. acquired two early BKF chairs in Argentina: one for The Museum of Modern Art in New York and another for Fallingwater, the legendary Pennsylvania residence designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family.
Widely known around the world as the Butterfly Chair, the BKF has since become a timeless symbol of modern design.
PROVENANCE & AUTHENTICITY
The BKF chair was born in Buenos Aires. Its original leather cover was commissioned from a Buenos Aires saddler — Rossi Caruso — who made saddles for polo players of the time. The first prototype was crafted by artisan Cuatrini in his workshop in Castelar, Buenos Aires.
Big BKF has been handcrafting BKF chairs in Buenos Aires since 1999. Every chair is individually made by skilled craftsmen in our Buenos Aires workshop, using the same tradition of Argentine leather craft that defined the original: premium vegetable-tanned Argentine leather, hand-selected, hand-cut, hand-stitched, and finished to last a lifetime.
We designed and registered our own disassemblable steel frame — an evolution of the original iron frame, built for easy worldwide shipping and storage without tools.
Big BKF chairs have been featured in Living Magazine, Sunset Magazine, Australian House & Garden, and NZ House & Garden, among other publications.
THE POLO LONDON
Our Polo London is our bestselling BKF and one of the purest expressions of the chair's original character.
Each chair is 100% handcrafted in Buenos Aires using premium vegetable-tanned Argentine leather. This is the same type of thick, durable leather traditionally used in Argentina to manufacture polo boots and saddles.
The distinctive London color celebrates the natural beauty of the hide and develops an increasingly beautiful patina with time and use. Its warm, natural tone works especially well with light wood floors, natural materials and both contemporary and traditional interiors.
EASY TO ASSEMBLE & STORE STEEL FRAME
Our Butterfly Chair steel frame is fully disassemblable and designed for easy worldwide shipping, assembly and storage. No tools are required.
Each frame component is clearly identified with matching colors and numbers. Simply connect the corresponding pieces, and your chair will be ready in approximately 5 minutes.
Once the leather cover is placed on the frame, simply sit in the chair. The frame and leather will naturally settle and adjust into their correct position during the first use.
The frame is also quick and easy to disassemble whenever needed, making it convenient to store the chair in a closet, cabinet or other small space when not in use.

100% VEGETABLE-TANNED ARGENTINE LEATHER
We believe genuine leather should look and feel genuine.
The surface of our Polo London leather is not corrected or artificially modified to hide its natural characteristics. Range marks, scars, wrinkles, grain and subtle variations in color are not imperfections — they are part of the authenticity and beauty of each hide.
Argentine cattle spend much of their lives roaming the open grasslands of the Pampas, and nature leaves its own unique marks on the leather.
No two Polo London chairs are exactly alike.
MADE TO LAST
We use exceptionally thick leather, measuring at least 3.2 mm, and reinforce the entire perimeter with our signature double-leather border, creating edges up to approximately 6.4 mm thick.
This construction gives the cover exceptional strength while preserving the natural flexibility and comfort that make the BKF so distinctive.
Over time, the leather softens, develops character and acquires its own unique patina.
This is not a chair designed to be replaced. It is a chair designed to age beautifully.
