Argentina’s most iconic chair, handcrafted in Buenos Aires by Argentine artisans.

Designed in Buenos Aires in 1938 by Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy, the BKF — internationally known as the Butterfly Chair — became one of Argentina’s most celebrated contributions to modern design.

The chair is represented in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. In 1940, Edgar Kaufmann Jr. acquired two early BKF chairs in Argentina: one for MoMA and another for Fallingwater, the legendary house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family.

THE POLO ANTIQUE

Our Polo Antique combines the timeless silhouette of the original BKF with the rich character of leather that already feels as though it has a story to tell.

Each chair is handcrafted using premium 100% vegetable-tanned Argentine leather, the same type of thick, durable leather traditionally used in Argentina to make polo boots and saddles.

The Antique finish is specially developed to create a warm, aged appearance with subtle variations in tone and depth, giving each chair its own distinctive vintage character from the very beginning.

It is the perfect choice for interiors where you want the BKF to feel warm, authentic and beautifully lived-in, whether surrounded by antiques, natural woods or contemporary pieces.

EASY TO ASSEMBLE & STORE STEEL FRAME

Our Butterfly Chair steel frame is fully disassemblable and designed for easy worldwide shipping, assembly and storage. No tools are required.

Each frame component is clearly identified with matching colors and numbers. Simply connect the corresponding pieces, and your chair will be ready in approximately 5 minutes.

Once the leather cover is placed on the frame, simply sit in the chair. The frame and leather will naturally settle and adjust into their correct position during the first use.

The frame is also quick and easy to disassemble whenever needed, making it convenient to store the chair in a closet, cabinet or other small space when not in use.

LEATHER WITH CHARACTER

We believe genuine leather should preserve the story of the hide rather than hide it.

Natural range marks, scars, wrinkles, grain and variations in tone remain visible and are part of the beauty and authenticity of every Polo Antique.

Combined with its vintage finish, these natural characteristics mean that no two Polo Antique chairs are exactly alike.

And the story doesn't stop when the chair leaves our workshop. With time and use, the leather continues to soften and develop an even richer and more personal patina.

MADE TO LAST

We use exceptionally thick leather, measuring at least 3.2 mm, reinforced around the perimeter with our signature double-leather border, creating edges up to approximately 6.4 mm thick.

This construction gives the cover exceptional strength and durability while allowing the leather to naturally soften and become increasingly comfortable over time.

HANDCRAFTED IN BUENOS AIRES

Every Big BKF is individually handcrafted by skilled Argentine artisans in our workshop in Buenos Aires.

From selecting each hide to cutting, stitching and finishing the leather, every chair combines traditional Argentine leather craftsmanship with one of the country's most internationally recognized designs.
