Argentina’s most iconic chair, handcrafted in Buenos Aires by Argentine artisans.
Designed in Buenos Aires in 1938 by Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy, the BKF — internationally known as the Butterfly Chair — became one of Argentina’s most celebrated contributions to modern design.
The chair is represented in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. In 1940, Edgar Kaufmann Jr. acquired two early BKF chairs in Argentina: one for MoMA and another for Fallingwater, the legendary house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family.
THE POLO PLAYA
Our Polo Playa celebrates leather in its purest form: natural, undyed vegetable-tanned Argentine leather.
Each chair is handcrafted using premium thick leather, the same type traditionally used in Argentina to make polo boots and saddles.
What makes Polo Playa truly special is the way it evolves.
When new, the leather begins with a very light natural tone and may develop a subtle pinky, blush-colored hue during its early life. With exposure to oxygen, natural light and everyday use, the vegetable-tanned leather gradually matures into a beautiful light tan and soft warm brown.
The transformation is completely natural. Over the years, the leather continues to develop depth, warmth and a unique patina.
The older the Polo Playa gets, the more beautiful it becomes.
A LIVING, NATURAL LEATHER
We don't cover or correct the natural surface of the hide. Natural range marks, scars, wrinkles, grain and variations in tone are intentionally left visible.
These are not imperfections. They are evidence of genuine, minimally processed Argentine leather and make every chair unique.
Because Polo Playa is our most natural leather, sunlight, oxygen, touch and everyday life all become part of its character. Areas that are touched or exposed more frequently may darken differently, creating a patina that belongs uniquely to your chair.
No two Polo Playa chairs will age in exactly the same way.
MADE TO LAST
We use exceptionally thick leather, measuring at least 3.2 mm, reinforced around the perimeter with our signature double-leather border, creating edges up to approximately 6.4 mm thick.
This traditional construction provides strength and durability while allowing the leather to soften naturally and become increasingly comfortable with use.
Rather than trying to keep the chair looking new, Polo Playa is designed to grow more beautiful with age.
HANDCRAFTED IN BUENOS AIRES
Every Big BKF is individually handcrafted by skilled Argentine artisans in our workshop in Buenos Aires.
From selecting each hide to cutting, stitching and finishing the leather, every chair combines traditional Argentine leather craftsmanship with one of the country's most internationally recognized designs.
