Argentina’s most iconic chair, handcrafted in Buenos Aires by Argentine artisans.

Designed in Buenos Aires in 1938 by Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy, the BKF — internationally known as the Butterfly Chair — became one of Argentina’s most celebrated contributions to modern design.

The chair is represented in the permanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. In 1940, Edgar Kaufmann Jr. acquired two early BKF chairs in Argentina: one for MoMA and another for Fallingwater, the legendary house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Kaufmann family.

THE POLO CACTUS

Our Polo Cactus is inspired by the extraordinary landscape of Los Cardones National Park in northern Argentina, where thousands of majestic cardones rise from the mountains and valleys.

Its distinctive cactus-green, earthy tone brings the colors and quiet beauty of the Argentine landscape into the home, giving the iconic BKF silhouette a natural and contemporary character.

Each chair is handcrafted using premium 100% vegetable-tanned Argentine leather, the same type of thick, durable leather traditionally used in Argentina to make polo saddles and boots.

Inspired by the Cardones. Crafted in Buenos Aires. Unmistakably Argentine.

EASY TO ASSEMBLE & STORE STEEL FRAME

Our Butterfly Chair steel frame is fully disassemblable and designed for easy worldwide shipping, assembly and storage. No tools are required.

Each frame component is clearly identified with matching colors and numbers. Simply connect the corresponding pieces, and your chair will be ready in approximately 5 minutes.

Once the leather cover is placed on the frame, simply sit in the chair. The frame and leather will naturally settle and adjust into their correct position during the first use.

The frame is also quick and easy to disassemble whenever needed, making it convenient to store the chair in a closet, cabinet or other small space when not in use.

NATURAL ARGENTINE LEATHER

We believe genuine leather should preserve the story of the hide rather than hide it.

Natural range marks, subtle scars, wrinkles, grain and variations in tone remain visible and are part of the authenticity and beauty of every Polo Cactus.

Our leather comes from cattle raised on the vast grasslands of the Argentine Pampas. The natural characteristics of each hide give the leather strength, flexibility and, most importantly, its own unique personality.

No two Polo Cactus chairs are exactly alike.

VEGETABLE TANNED

Our Polo leather is 100% vegetable tanned, using a traditional process based on natural tannins rather than synthetic chrome tanning.

This slower, traditional method preserves the natural character of the hide and allows the leather to evolve beautifully over time.

With use, light and age, your Polo Cactus will gradually soften and develop a distinctive patina, making the chair increasingly personal and unique.

MADE TO LAST

We use exceptionally thick leather, measuring at least 3.2 mm, reinforced around the perimeter with our signature double-leather border, creating edges up to approximately 6.4 mm thick.

It is the same kind of robust leather traditionally chosen for Argentine polo equipment — made to withstand years of use while becoming softer and more beautiful with age.

A chair designed not for a season, but for generations.

HANDCRAFTED IN BUENOS AIRES

Every Big BKF is individually handcrafted by skilled Argentine artisans in our workshop in Buenos Aires.

From selecting each hide to cutting, stitching and finishing the leather, every chair combines traditional Argentine leather craftsmanship with one of the country's most internationally recognized designs.

The Polo Cactus brings together Argentine design, Argentine leather and the extraordinary landscape of northern Argentina in a single piece.
